This massive century old building has been built by the naattukkottai chettiars from the Chettinad region of Tamil nadu. The present day generation of chettiars flock this place to celebrate the festival of Deepavali with the traditional 'Ganga Snanam' (holy bath in the Ganges) in the true and literal sense.

Rana, 2002), Archetype of Pilgrimage Joueney: Pancakroshi Yatra (2002), Where the Buddha Walked (2003), Cultural Landscape and Literary Images (2004), Banaras, the City Revealed (with George Michell, 2005), Banaras, the Heritage City of India: Geography, History & Bibliography, 1200 sources (2008), Sacred Geography of Goddesses (2008). His publications include 172 research papers, 12 research monographs, 21 anthologies, 3 catalogues, 2 text books, 2 Guidebooks, and 189 Books' Reviews. Prof. Rana have two sons, Pravin, a World Literacy of Canada Manager, and Prashant, a Computer Software Engineer; his daughter-in-law Dr Jyoti is Lecturer in History of Art; his wife Manju 'Usha' known as 'Annapurna' takes care of all; the daughter Prabha is a painter.
